Details About Bruins' Scoreboard Upgrade
All summer we waited to hear details about the brand new scoreboard that the Bruins had mentioned on a couple occasions. However, after most of the summer had passed with no news, and pictures came out showing most of the scoreboard still intact, it became clear that a new scoreboard was no longer on the table. Since then we have received word from a source within the Bruins' organization that they ran out of time, due to the shortened off-season, and that they expect to replace the board in the Summer of 2020.

However, the scoreboard is at least partially new this season as it saw and upgrade of its main video screens. The size of the screens are almost identical but quality was the objective for this upgrade. Daktronics has stated that the old boards had a 10mm pitch (space between the pixels) while the new board has only a 2.5mm pitch. They have upgraded from HD to 4k. Not the change most Bruins fans were hoping for, but it should make for a much more crisp image to get them by until next off-season.

NHL All Star Jerseys Revealed
The 2020 NHL All Star event is set to begin in St. Louis in a couple weeks and the jerseys were unveiled this week.
The design was lackluster at best. The only local flair is the sheet music-like scale that appears under the logo and wraps halfway around the jersey. Otherwise the logo is straight black or white, with a single color primary team logo. Many of those single color logos went with an odd secondary color choice.
Some teams actually look decent in a single color logo like the Stars. Others look quite bizzarre such as the Bruins and Penguins which uses a very bright color, even on the white jersey.
This will be a strange new look for the All Star Game, and proves that we will never be able to predict what future year's jerseys might look like.

What Will The Belmont Arena Scoreboard Look Like
We already have seen two different designs in two different renderings. We also know that the final product is usually somewhat altered from what the original renderings show, but often still have some similarities.
Both renderings so far suggest that the board is likely to be longer on the sides than on the end zones so we would imagine this will stay true in the end. However, the bottom rendering shows a must lower quality drawing of a scoreboard (and it also came earlier on in the design process) so we are leaning more toward the first photo for our prediction.
It would seem that the new board will be a 360 degree LED wrap, much like Carolina's board. In fact, it would appear to have a lot in common with that board. It will likely be a bit bigger than Carolina's board which is approximately 47 feet wide already. The rendering makes the corners look much more squared off, but it will most likely be more rounded to provide a better clarity.
At this time, I expect it will look like the Atlanta Hawks scoreboard which has more height going on for it than the Carolina board.
We will keep an eye out for new details and renderings that might give us more insight as to what the board might look like.

All Star Weekend Preparation Begins
With the start of the All Star Weekend just 7 days away, things are starting to get busy at Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
The first sign of the special event coming to the Gateway City came weeks ago when the All Star logo replaced the Stanley Cup logo on the front exterior of the arena. Fans briefly mourned the loss of the well earned decor but we ultimately knew that it had to come down eventually. It was time to move on and hope the Blues will bring back another championship very soon.
The Olympia ice re-surfacers scraped the ice down to the logos which were then removed. Next they continued to scrape down until all other hockey markings were gone.
Then it was on to the new markings and logos that will be used for the All Star weekend. Fabric lines and logos were installed including a fancy blue line with trumps and stars inside it and a large All Star logo uninterrupted by the usual red line.
More decorations and signage will be going up all around the arena throughout the weekend and next week crews will put up the finishing touches. This year's event will include a women's competition as well as a Top Golf style shooting event. Four Blues players will participate in this year's festivities and they will find familiar leadership with their own coach, Craig Berube, behind the bench.

Our New Home
Welcome to the new and improved home of the only center ice archive on the web! The entire site has been revamped with a new modern look and feel. This is our biggest site upgrade in our nearly 8 year history, and the first time our entire site has one streamlined design throughout every section.
Check out our latest stories on the homepage or head over to the Center Ice and Scoreboard sections for a quick look at what graphics have been added recently. You can find those in the slider on the landing page for each section.
Each section also has a layout customized to best show off their respective archives.
We still have some tweaks to make as we settle into our new home, and some graphics and layouts to update a bit, but we also have some new features that we will be adding to the site in the near future so stay tuned.
A huge thanks to Blossom Theme's for helping make this new site possible! We hope you enjoy! Now head on over to the homepage and check it out!

NHL Scoreboard Rebuilds
It has been four years since I started the scoreboard section of this site, where I have archived many of the NHL scoreboards including all of the current boards. It all started with CanuckFanatic92 who was a huge contribute to our center ice site. He began working on scoreboard recreations of old NHL scoreboards. The work was particularly hard as the dot matrix displays of the day were complicated an very unique to each team. His work was so incredible that we knew it needed to be featured as an archive.
This inspired me to start working on current day LED scoreboards. The thing is, I had never done anything like that. I had created ice graphics but nothing like recreating any sort of standing structure. It was the beginning of an adventure that has lead to our full scoreboard section with all current NHL boards and many of their old scoreboards.
Over these four years, I have learned tricks along the way, and worked on accurate perspectives on scoreboards. I have learned a lot from watching our 3D scoreboard partner Dryve and learning from his models.
Our recent scoreboards have come a long way, but this means some of our old scoreboards look pretty rough in comparison. Recently I decided it was time to rebuild some of the original scoreboard recreations with a few goals in mind. I wanted to make them all more of a head on view, but not so close up that it gave the scoreboards sort of a fish-eye look. You will see that fish-eye look in boards like Vegas especially. Here is a look at some before and after images with the rebuilt scoreboards on the right side.

Neutral Site Center Ices
With talks ramping up about a return of hockey and completion of the 2019-2020 season and playoffs, lets take a look at how this might look on ice. Currently the rumblings state that each division could play in a central location, and while this is in no way official, three of those four sites have been discussed by the league in recent meetings with teams.
It is safe to say, if the league goes with this idea, the center ice designs will not feature the home team logo for any teams. A user on reddit posted his concept for what the ice might look like if they played all the games in North Dakota as initial rumors suggested. This gave us the idea to create what we think the ices could look like at the "neutral sites". Here are the three front runners.
